Andrew Holgate

Former Sunday Times Literary Editor

Andrew Holgate is a former literary editor of The Sunday Times and worked in the paper’s Books department for 23 years, 9 as deputy literary editor and 14 as literary editor. He revived the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award in 2015, oversaw and developed the Sunday Times Short Story Award, has judged numerous other prizes, and was most recently chair of judges of the Bailey Gifford Prize, in 2021. He has edited two books, The Test of Time and The Cost of Letters: A Survey of Literary Living Standards, and is an honorary fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. Andrew is currently attempting to write a book.
